Proficiency Testing Services
Validate and improve credibility of your analytical competency
using Scott brand specialty gases
Air Liquide provides a unique opportunity to confirm your laboratory analytical proficiency by comparing your measurements with other independent, participating laboratories in a global community. This both validates and empowers you to achieve a higher degree of confidence in the accuracy of your laboratory analyses. Proficiency Testing (PT) also helps you identify potential problems in the accuracy of those analyses.
Benefits of Participation
- Improves credibility of your analytical laboratory capabilities
- Provides critical selection criteria when evaluating and selecting outside, third-party analytical services
- Identifies potential analytical problems confidentially
- Provides inter and intra-company quality assurance
- Sample gas mixtures can be retained as high-confidence master calibration standards
How Our Proficiency Testing Services Work
Step 1: Air Liquide creates identical unknown mixtures
We use our ACUBLEND™ or GRAVSTAT™ proprietary blending processes to produce a homogeneous batch of gas cylinders quarterly, then analyze them against NIST-traceable standards. As a subscriber to our service, one of these gas cylinders is sent to you for analysis. For example, if you subscribe to our low level Nitric Oxide scheme, you would receive a mixture whose concentration falls between 5 and 50 ppm but would arrive at your door as an unknown.
Step 2: Participants analyze the unknown gas mixture
Cylinders are shipped quarterly, semi-annually or annually, depending on the scheme to which you subscribe. All participants then report their findings to Air Liquide online, or via a Field Analysis Form that is supplied with each sample cylinder.
Step 3: Air Liquide reports analytical results to all participants
We provide a report summarizing the analytical results submitted by all participants in a scheme. Results are shown by participant ID number to protect anonymity. A detailed report includes mean and median concentrations, method of analysis, and statistical data such as variance mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variations. Participants may keep the gas mixture for use as a high-confidence calibration gas standard.
