Proficiency Testing Services

Air Liquide provides a unique opportunity to confirm your laboratory analytical results by comparing your measurements with other independent, participating laboratories in a global community. Formerly known as our Global Cross Reference Services™, Proficiency Testing Services from Air Liquide empowers you to achieve a higher degree of confidence in the accuracy of your laboratory analyses, and also helps you identify potential problems in the accuracy of those analyses.

Benefits of Participation

  • Improves credibility of your analytical laboratory capabilities
  • Identifies potential analytical problems confidentially
  • Provides inter and intracompany quality assurance
  • Cross reference gas mixtures can be retained as high-confidence master calibration standards

How Our Proficiency Testing Services Work

Step 1: Air Liquide creates identical unknown mixtures

We use our ACUBLEND™ or GRAVSTAT™ proprietary blending processes to produce a homogeneous batch of gas cylinders quarterly, then analyze them against NIST-traceable standards. As a subscriber to our service, one of these gas cylinders is sent to you for analysis. For example, if you subscribe to our low level Nitric Oxide Service, you would receive a mixture whose concentration falls between 5 and 50 ppm but would arrive at your door as an unknown.

Step 2: Participants analyze the unknown gas mixture and report findings to Air Liquide

A standardized Field Analysis Form is supplied with each gas cylinder for this purpose.

Step 3: Air Liquide reports analytical results to all participants

We provide a report summarizing the analytical results for all participants (listed by code number or by the name of your organization, whichever you prefer). Report information includes mean and median concentrations, method of analysis, and statistical data such as variance mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variations. You keep the gas mixture for use as a high-confidence calibration gas standard.

TO14/15 Cross Reference Program

This program was developed to respond to the various organizations that are formulating criteria for which laboratories may become accredited for air analysis. Our toxic organic program is conducted in conjunction with our partners, Environmental Resource Associates, for Federal, state and private laboratories. This continues to expand in support of lab accreditation guidelines. Tell me more about TO14/15 Cross Reference program.
